Amaan is the Chief Operating Officer at Equi. He manages Equi’s daily operations and leads the communications, human resources, finance and research functions. His work includes developing internal systems to improve efficiency, overseeing stakeholder engagement, and collaborating with the Managing Director and Board to implement strategic plans aligned with Equi’s mission of advancing ethically-driven public policy, informed by British Muslim perspectives.
Amaan has over 10 years of experience supporting executive operations, strategy and governance in the charity and public sectors. In his previous role, leading the Chair’s office at the NHS Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West Integrated Care Board, he coordinated governance, strategic and operational functions for NHS services in a region serving nearly 2 million people. He has also held senior roles within the CEO team at Barnardo’s, the UK’s largest children’s charity, which, at the time, had around 20,000 staff and volunteers, supporting over 358,000 of the UK’s most vulnerable people. Prior to this, he worked within in the CEO team at the Al-Khair Foundation where he was also Africa Programmes Manager. He managed large-scale aid programmes across Africa, as well as global emergency responses – with an annual budget of over £2 million – administering development initiatives in Kenya, Somaliland, Gambia, Sierra Leone, Togo, Mozambique, and Bangladesh, Pakistan, India and many other countries. He also played a key role in overseeing stakeholder management, communications, and fundraising.
Amaan is also a Trustee for two charities, Al Amaal (establishing palliative care support for the British Muslim Community) and Madad UK (establishing interest-free microloans for daily essentials, keeping those in need away from predatory payday lending). Amaan holds an MSc in International Development from the Global Development Institute (UoM) and a BSSc in Politics and International Relations from the University of Manchester. He is passionate about creating impactful change across, particularly in addressing social inequalities and driving policies that empower underrepresented communities. His dedication to ethical leadership and public service is central to his work, with a deep commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable and marginalised groups through thoughtful, inclusive policymaking.
