Bushra is Chair of Equi's Board of Directors. She also serves as the Chair of the Naz Legacy Foundation and the Chair of the King's Trust Education Advisory Panel. She is an educational consultant specialising in educational mentoring and performance management, and was previously the CEO of Drapers’ Multi-Academy Trust, where she led a group of five schools in Havering, focusing on raising educational standards and fostering inclusive communities. She was the first female Muslim CEO of a Multi-Academy Trust in the UK.
With over 20 years of experience as the Headteacher of Plashet School in East London, Bushra was one of the first Muslim female headteachers in the UK. Under her leadership, the school became an Ofsted outstanding-rated institution, helping students from disadvantaged backgrounds achieve remarkable success. She was awarded TES Headteacher of the Year in 2012 for her outstanding contributions to education.
In recognition of her services to education, she was awarded a CBE in 2003 and has been appointed as a Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Greater London. Bushra has received numerous accolades, including an Honorary Doctorate from the University of East London, and a Fellowship from Queen Mary College. She has also co-authored the book "Breaking Stereotypes," which aims to provide positive role models for ethnic minority young people. In addition, she was named one of the top ten Muslim women on the Muslim Women Power List by the Equality and Human Rights Commission in 2009.
