Prof. Tahir Abbas

Tahir  has nearly 30 years’ experience in sociology, politics, and Islamic studies, and  is Professor of Radicalisation Studies at Leiden University, Netherlands. Previously, he was a Professor of Sociology at Istanbul University and an Associate Professor in Sociology at the University of Birmingham. He was the Scientific Coordinator of the EU-funded H2020 RIA Drive project, exploring social exclusion’s impact on far-right and Islamist radicalisation. His most recent books include Ethnicity, Religion, and Education in the UK (co-ed, 2024) and Global Counter-Terrorism: A Decolonial Approach (co-ed, 2025, forthcoming). Tahir is also a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences and the Royal Society of Arts.
